The joy of turning real pages

The joy of turning real pages -

Do not get me wrong. I love my tablets, eBooks and audio volume. But nothing brings me more joy than the printed page and the feeling of a well-designed cover in my hands.

I through books as a child was fascinated, the longing for the day I could make sense of those magical symbols, the alphabet! I impressed my mother and siblings to stories read to me of Little Golden Books to the stories of Charles Dickens.

I was particularly impressed by the Walt Disney edition of The Swiss Family Robinson. where lent or my brother, he was not very happy that I was on the inside cover all scrawled my name. The volume was the seed of my children's library.

centered Over time, most of my collection to my passionate love for books about horses. Walter Farley stories, including the delightful Little Black - A pony and his Black Stallion and Island Stallion series, filled my dreams. One of my favorite Christmas presents on this day remains Farley The Horse Tamer.

These books were finally packed and stored, until I started teaching. They were unpacked to their rightful shelves and restored and enjoyed many students over the years. I grew my library from bookstores, garage sales, book clubs Shipping and Scholastic wonderful textbook program.

years have passed, and I married and had a child of my own. So my library came back home where our daughter they consumed during their childhood. to see my joy, learn to read the old books, was made even more invaluable by her profound hearing loss. As devastated as I was by their diagnosis, I told myself that if she could get her to read for recording the world would. And they read it did, voraciously to reach for the stars through the written and spoken word.

She's all grown up now and I often have the nose in a reading app on their mobile phone or laptop. But I am excited about the stacks of books that brings them home from the public library and their love for the printed page. There is still something magical about a well-loved, corner turned book, magazine, or their favorite, collections of classic comic books.

So take heart. A James Thaddeus Kirk, a star ship captain will, henceforth holds real books made centuries. He may be a television and movie character, but he has the right idea. So every now and then, step away from the electronic devices. Select a book and go where you have never seen before.
